Collecting donations for the Hannah-Hof at “Rad am Ring” 2024

The Nürburgring in the Eifel region has been the legendary venue for the 24-hour cycling race “Rad am Ring” since 2003. This year, ID owner Michael Gottschalk combined his passion for cycling with a good cause. In the “Hannah Hof” team, in aid of the deceased daughter of the Zülpich-based bicycle shop owner Schumacher, he cycled a symbolic lap at the amateur race as part of a fundraising campaign.

There is no better reason: cycling for a good cause. This is what happened at this year’s amateur cycling race “Rad am Ring” at the end of July at the Nürburgring. As a member of the board of “miteinander.regional.alle” and a good friend of the owners of “Fahrrad Schumacher” in Zülpich, ID boss Gottschalk was determined to be there despite his tight schedule and complete a lap on the legendary Grand Prix track in the Eifel region.

Old farm becomes a place for children with disabilities

And this is what it’s all about: At the end of 2016, the Schumacher family bought an old farm in Zülpich-Bessenich for their daughter Hannah, who had a disability, in order to provide her and children with similar fates with the best possible care in a familiar and secure environment according to their wishes. But unfortunately, Hannah passed away in 2019 at the age of only 18. In memory of her, her parents and her brother Henrik continued to pursue the vision and are building the farm as a “time out” for children with disabilities like Hannah. The shell is already in place and everything should be finished by the beginning of 2025. They are supported as a partner project by the Toni Kroos Foundation. And now they can also look forward to almost 40,000 euros, which were donated lap after lap by friends and family in the “Hannah Hof” team and cover part of the outstanding costs.

Rad am Ring – Major event at the Nürburgring

Rad am Ring is a legendary cycling event that has been held at the Nürburgring in various disciplines since 2003. The core is the 24-hour race for racing cyclists and mountain bikers. The racing bike route leads through the ultra-modern Formula 1 arena as well as over the legendary Nordschleife. The mountain bike race course starts on the Grand Prix track and leads around the famous Nürburg through the Eifel forest. Team quarters directly on the track and in the pit lane create a unique atmosphere. In addition to the long-distance event, Rad am Ring offers various amateur races, a time trial and touring rides (sportive or tourist) without timekeeping. The amateur races are part of the German Cycling Cup, Germany’s largest amateur racing series. Rad am Ring has also been offering an extensive range of activities for e-bikers since 2018. A varied supporting program with expo, guided tours and tracks via app rounds off the event.
