ID presents robotics and image processing to a specialist audience at the AI Village

The event “Robotics & AI – Future-proof through efficient process optimization”, organized by the AI Village in Hürth, consisted of a combination of short, intensive keynote speeches and a freely accessible exhibition area with interactive demonstrations. The focus was on technically innovative solutions, such as deep learning, vision or versatile robotics, but also liability for AI and cybersecurity.

Deep Learning and Machine Vision in the ID exhibition

In the exhibition area, the ID team image processing with Michael Sartor, Jennifer Krings and Julian Weber set up practical examples for the 2D and 3D recognition of production parts. The special highlight was the virtual tour of a production plant using VR glasses. The customer can thus virtually follow the development process and recognize detailed processes in “their” plant and discuss them with the ID engineers. The image captured with the virtual eye appears simultaneously for everyone else to see on a large screen. ID works here with software from Zebra Technologies for data acquisition and processing.

AI Village offers trade fair character in a modern industrial look

The location was a perfect fit for the theme, which the organizers presented for the first time and in this form in the combination of robotics and AI. The industrial-look atmosphere of the large hall with a gallery in Studio 6 of the AI Village offered ideal opportunities for application, information and networking as a location. The lecture program provided deeper insights into the topic. ID also participated with a lecture on application examples of deep learning in robotics and image processing.

These companies exhibited and participated in the program:

  • Igus GmbH – Delta robots for fast pick & place tasks
  • ID ENGINEERING – UR Robot and 3D laser triangulation camera
  • Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln – Intelligent automation technology
  • Blockchain Reallabor – Fischertechnik factory with blockchain solution
  • Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Rheinland – Machine Vision and Cobot AI Demonstrator
  • Fraunhofer IAIS – AI to touch and understand
  • United Robotics Group GmbH – RB-Watcher and SPOT
  • AXA Niederlassung Euskirchen, AXA Agentur Decker

Cooperation partners such as ID support start-ups in the Ideenfabrik

Start-ups receive support from partner companies. ID provides, for example, assistance with manufacturing drawings, electrics or robotics. Interested newcomers can also view projects from special machine construction, robotics and image processing directly in ID’s own assembly hall in order to gain inspiration for their own ideas.

Funding for a sustainable economy

The Ideenfabrik (total costs approx. 1.9 million euros) has been funded to 70 percent by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMUV). The hope is great that this project will prove to be exemplary and thus become a model for other regions in Germany. The BMUV delegate from Berlin said at the opening: “You can be sure: the eyes from Berlin will now be directed to the Euskirchen district.”
