Including a Mud Battle – How Running Fosters Team Spirit

One does not have to be a regular runner to participate in these events. The collegial community and shared enjoyment were the focus of the running events at the end of August and beginning of September, in which ID employees took part: the Max Buddels Funlauf in Euskirchen and the B2Run in Cologne.

Covered in dirt from head to toe and with numerous bruises, the ID team reached the finish line after just under an hour. Is that supposed to be fun? Absolutely. Because the feelings of happiness after this crazy run make up for the hardships.

Obstacle Race is Fun and Strengthens Bonds

We are talking about the Max Buddels Funlauf, in which Lea Gottschalk, Tobias Butscheid, John Weigandt, and Rainer Krings participated. Starting together and running to the finish line, overcoming 15 different obstacles in between: climbing over tree trunks, carrying sandbags, crawling through truck tires, or scrambling through a mud pit and running a stretch through the small river Erft. All of this had to be completed. The 4.5-kilometer obstacle course lasted just under an hour, and after the medal ceremony, the ID team rounded off the shared experience among food trucks and various event stands. Only when the mud on their clothes had dried from the hot summer weather did everyone drive home happy and content. An adventure with guaranteed good spirits that the ID colleagues want to repeat next year.

B2Run in Cologne – Team Event After Work

A similar experience was had by the ID runners during their first participation in the B2Run in Cologne, which was record-breaking with over 20,000 participants from 851 companies. Jennifer Krings, Marc Barth, John Weigandt, and newcomer Moritz Hedrich arranged to meet after work and drove to Cologne. There, this year’s B2Run was on the program as a joint event under the theme “Diversity”. Although the Olympic motto applied, there was also a bit of ambition. With 35 minutes and 45 seconds, the four reached the finish line after 6 kilometers. This team is also certain that they will participate again next year.
