Sustainability project “Near-Natural Company Premises” is taking shape
The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals include not only the better-known “Climate Action” or “Sustainable Consumption and Production” but also points such as “Decent Work and Economic Growth.” If you take a closer look at the so-called Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs for short, every company can make a contribution. The SDG-Scouts® – business at ID Engineering have launched a suitable project: a near-natural company premises with a staff lounge. And that is already making great progress.
Review: As part of the SDG-Scouts® – business, Lea Gottschalk and Jens Janke developed project ideas for their own company. The “Near-Natural Company Premises” project went into concrete planning shortly thereafter. As of today: Digging and excavating have been carried out, material has been delivered – and many employees have helped.
Near-natural staff lounge on the ID company premises
The summer of 2024 was all about a joint project in which many ID employees actively participated in their free time or during their lunch break. According to the planning specifications of the SDG-Scouts® – business, holes were dug for the posts of the sun sails, posts were concreted and the sun sail was stretched. Then the turf was completely turned over once, tree trunks were delivered and laid out as an outer border for the newly designed near-natural staff lounge. The inner circle was bordered with quarry stones (see photos).
The next steps are: Order gravel, spread it on the inner surface and plant flowers (see sketch in cross-section).
Together for more sustainability in the company
Such a project combines several aspects in one. On the one hand, it is about more awareness. Instead of sealed surfaces, as are common in many industrial areas, an open, near-natural design with soil and plants. Another, no less important aspect is the sense of community. If employees are personally involved in the creation, it makes them proud and they feel jointly responsible for a positive result. And that is entirely in line with the UN sustainability goals.
As with ID Managing Director Tobias Butscheid, this also has an impact on sustainable awareness at home. Wildflower areas grow in his garden and attract numerous bees.
