Occupational safety is essential for employees in industry, especially when working directly with machinery or on construction sites. Under the ASiG (Occupational Safety Act), employers are required to appoint an occupational safety specialist (Sifa). This person supports the company with their expertise, as well as with planning and implementing measures to improve occupational health and safety.

At ID Engineering, Dennis Schmitz has already been appointed as “Sifa”. To provide additional support, ID management has now also enabled Pirmin Haubenreisser to complete the training so that he can professionally assess safety-relevant topics in ID’s work context. Haubenreisser, who started at ID in 2017 with an internship and as a working student and has been working for three years as a project coordinator for ID’s parent company Schoeller, received the official certificate as an occupational safety specialist last week.

Occupational safety in theory and practice

The training is offered by the Administrative Employers’ Liability Insurance Association of the statutory accident insurance (VBG). Over two years, participants complete various modules online and in person. These include group work weeks at one of the VBG seminar centers, self-study phases on the PC with online exams, and preparation of presentations. For this period, ID released its employee Haubenreisser from work.

Thanks to the workshop-style training, the sometimes very dry legal requirements, embedded in case studies, feel more closely connected to real-life practice. “Of course, what we learn there is not comparable to reality one-to-one. But the exchange within the group in particular is a real added value. And I now know what I can point out in an emergency,” Haubenreisser concludes, summarizing the extensive training. Participants come from the widest range of industries—from industrial companies to credit institutions and sports facilities.

Application within the company

Haubenreisser, who as a design engineer and project coordinator has already supported many construction sites on location, will in future play an important role for ID in the continuous development and certification of occupational health and safety, thanks to his professional experience and his further training as an occupational safety specialist.
